Chairman’s piece

I expect that you will have submitted your membership renewal and hope that if you are having difficulties you have contacted our Treasurer, Rab, for a chat about how we can help.

I expect that relaxation of lockdown has enabled you to start getting out and about. In my case I have finally been able to get into the hills and on the river with the fly rod. I am sure, like me, you are also looking forward to the new season after such a difficult few months. At present we see no sign of restrictions on wildfowling and will keep you updated with any recommendations that might be made to ensure extra safety from Covid. As ours is an outdoor sport where social distancing is not a problem I am not expecting to be told anything earth shattering.

I have not heard how pinkfoot breeding numbers are looking but there are certainly plenty of resident greylag about at present. Add to that the good broods of ducklings I have seen whilst out and about there is every reason to be optimistic about the new season. Let’s just hope that we see our share of geese and that they stay around throughout the season. Last year they seemed to disappear too frequently along most of our local coast line.

Keep safe and best wishes
